Usually, a tooth extraction is necessary because of decay or because the structure of the tooth has been damaged beyond repair. Some orthodontic treatments might initially involve removing teeth because of overcrowding.
The area around the tooth is numbed with a local anaesthetic so that you remain comfortable throughout the procedure. Once the anaesthetic has taken effect the tooth will be removed and it should not take more than a few minutes.
